Sgarbi on trial in Enna for defamation of former superintendent of Rome

Vittorio Sgarbi is being sued in Enna for aggravated defamation following a complaint filed in 2017 by the then Superintendent of Cultural Heritage of Rome, Francesco Prosperetti. The court, considering the defense’s request for territorial incompetence, has transferred the case to the Court of Cassation and postponed the trial to May 15. The proceedings originated in Rome, where the superintendent filed the complaint, and then moved to Bologna before ultimately landing in Enna, where Sgarbi was residing in 2017 for political reasons. Sgarbi’s lawyers have contested the territorial incompetence in Enna, arguing that it is rooted in Rome, and have requested the court to declare it as such or refer the matter to the Court of Cassation. The decision from the Court of Cassation is expected in May.
