Santa Flavia rescues an injured loggerhead turtle: hurt after colliding with a vessel

The Porticello coast guard rescued a loggerhead sea turtle that was injured and struggling to swim. The alert came from a yachtsman who was at sea in the Kafara area, in the waters off Santa Flavia. The officers managed to recover the turtle, about one meter long and weighing 90 kilograms, which had an evident shell fracture, probably due to a collision with a boat. The animal was taken care of by the staff at the marine turtle recovery center at the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Sicily.
