San Gregorio bank robbery foiled by carabinieri as they attempted to use an excavator.
Assault last night (Friday, June 7) at around 3.30 a.m. at the Monte dei Paschi bank on Corso Europa in San Gregorio. Thieves, using a stolen excavator from the area, ripped open the entrance of the credit institution and tried to steal two ATMs and a cash machine. The immediate intervention of the carabinieri of the radiomobile unit of Gravina di Catania and those of the San Gregorio station interrupted the robbery because when they arrived, the criminals fled. The thieves managed to steal one of the two ATMs, leaving the other ATM and the cash machine on the ground, uprooted from the wall. On the scene were officers from the forensic investigations section of the Investigative Unit of the provincial command of Catania for technical surveys.
