The Salernitana is ready to appeal against the decision of the Serie B sports judge who sanctioned the Campanian club with a fine of 10,000 euros for the incidents that occurred on Sunday afternoon at the Barbera stadium in Palermo. The sports justice has cited, in particular, two firecrackers thrown by Salernitana fans between the second and third minute of the first half in the area occupied by Sicilian supporters.

The decision was met with “surprise by Salernitana” as – according to a statement from the Campanian club – “this provision does not completely capture the real events of Sunday, before and during the match played at the Barbera stadium against Palermo. On that occasion, indeed, dangerous firecrackers were not lacking exploding in the section occupied by Granata supporters, causing considerable scare among those present, including children and families.” However, Palermo was not sanctioned.

“The management of U.S. Salernitana 1919, while thanking Palermo F.C. for the courteous welcome, strongly condemns any violent behavior on the part of those who go to stadiums and reiterates that a few dozen thoughtless individuals – on one side or the other – cannot and must not tarnish the good name, warmth, and charm of historic and passionate squares like those of Rosanero and Granata.” At the same time, Salernitana announced that “it will evaluate the methods of appeal in the appropriate places to protect its fans and the image of the company itself.”

In the past few hours, it was the Salernitana fans themselves who raised their voices, highlighting how the events in Palermo had frightened the many families present in the away section of the Barbera. The Centro Coordinamento Salernitana Clubs, in the person of President Riccardo Santoro and on behalf of the entire Board, strongly condemned “the episode of incivility,” also urging Salernitana “to intervene in a strong and timely manner to protect the safety of fans, always present in large numbers in every stadium in Italy.”
