Sailboat with migrants arrives in Augusta: alleged smuggler, an Egyptian, arrested

A 49-year-old Egyptian citizen has been apprehended by the mobile team of the police headquarters in Syracuse, Italy, on charges of aiding illegal immigration. According to investigators, he is believed to be the smuggler of a sailboat that departed from the Libyan coasts and arrived at the commercial port of Augusta with 27 migrants on board. The Egyptian citizen has been taken to the Cavadonna prison in Syracuse.
