In the Aeolian Islands, the Carabinieri have been working extra hard to ensure a “safe summer”. Reinforcements have also arrived from the Milazzo company. The results so far include 17 people being reported, 16 being reported for drug offenses, 6 for unlawful activities, and the seizure of fish products by the Nas (Carabinieri’s specialized unit).
With the support of the military from the 12th Sicily Regiment’s operational intervention team, services have been enhanced with patrols and checkpoints, even during nighttime. The focus is on preventing and combating crimes such as predatory offenses, drug use and trafficking, violations of traffic laws, and illicit behaviors that may jeopardize the safety of citizens.
The Carabinieri have conducted checks on over 380 individuals and more than 190 vehicles, resulting in numerous violations including disregard for mandatory signs, failure to use helmets and seat belts, lack of insurance coverage, and more. As a consequence, fines totaling over €39,000 have been issued, accompanied by the deduction of 160 points from driver’s licenses.
Three individuals aged 23, 26, and 35 have been referred to court in a state of freedom for driving under the influence of alcohol, and a 22-year-old has been reported for repeatedly driving without a license.
As a result of anti-drug operations, 16 individuals have been reported to the appropriate prefectures as drug users, as they were found in possession of small quantities of marijuana, cocaine, and hashish for personal use. In Vulcano, a 25-year-old has been reported for damage, receiving stolen goods, and aggravated theft. She was found in possession of stolen gold jewelry and various items. Another 25-year-old has been reported for possession of offensive items.
In Panarea, four owners of public venues have been reported for non-compliance with local authority provisions, three of which were related to closing times and music broadcasting beyond the permitted limits. One owner was reported for failure to observe public safety regulations regarding the maximum capacity of the venue. Additionally, the owner of a venue was reported for poor state of conservation of untraceable food. Over 7kg of illegally frozen fish products without proper labeling were seized. Furthermore, in the context of combating unauthorized construction, the military of the Santa Marina di Salina station have reported 6 individuals for unauthorized construction works without urban planning authorization.
In Panarea, the Carabinieri have fined an individual for disruptive drunkenness, as he was caught bothering tourists in public. However, the military in Vulcano and Stromboli have fined six tourists for violating the ordinance of the Municipality of Lipari, which restricts access to the summit of the La Fossa crater in Vulcano due to the high gas emission risk, and regulates tourist flows on the Island of Stromboli.
The military of the CC 810 Ganci patrol boat have inspected 7 boats and issued 5 violations related to onboard equipment.
