Over 1,500 students and citizens in Piazza Europa, in Enna, for the stage of the “road show” of the information, education and awareness campaign #Save water, desired by the Region on the conscious use of water resources. Yesterday and today, from early morning until the afternoon, a ‘truck’ stopped inside which school children were able to use VR technology and touch screens to obtain further information on water saving and play themed games.
The campaign started from Palermo last October 13, passing through Catania, Messina, Ragusa and Enna so far: thousands of students and citizens have been involved in the main squares of Sicilian cities.
“We are very enthusiastic about this great success of our campaign in Enna with a truly extraordinary turnout of students and citizens. In two days we sold out beyond all expectations, even anticipating the opening in the morning to try to satisfy the great demand for participation by school groups and young people who are increasingly sensitive and receptive to this model of campaigns linked to civic and environmental education to protect a precious asset such as water – says Sabrina Gaeta, coordinator of the organization of events related to the project – #Risparmialacqua was created to promote intelligent consumption, which contributes to the fight against waste, and to raise awareness among students, citizens of tomorrow, so that they can look ahead in terms of water and environmental policies. We want to carry on education in saving water which, as is known, is a non-infinite good”.
“If there is no water, it will also be our fault. Let’s not waste it”: this is the slogan that started a few weeks ago for the massive campaign of the #Risparmialacqua project, launched by the Region’s water and waste department and co-financed by the European Union with Po Fesr 2014/2020 funds, in line with the European and national 2014-2020 strategies of smart, sustainable and inclusive growth, has the objective of spreading responsible water consumption, creating processes designed to improve consultation, the conscious participation of citizens-users and dialogue with the public, in order to reduce the distance between institutions and citizens. But the aim is also to encourage a strong process of change in lifestyles and current patterns of consumption and behavior, identified as the primary cause of the damage caused to the environment.
After the two days in Enna, there will be stops on 14-15 November in Corso Umberto in Caltanissetta, 17-18 November in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele in Agrigento, 21-22 November in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele in Trapani and, finally, 24-25 November in the Sant’Antonio car park in Syracuse. They will always be protagonists schools that can participate by sending an email to the regional department of water and waste: firstname.lastname@example.org.
