Good news for the workers of the railway doubling of the Palermo-Messina railway line. The company that received the contract from Rfi (Rete Ferroviatia Italiana), Toto Costruzioni, after weeks of controversy with the unions, has guaranteed that from January the interventions will be more spent and that salaries will be paid regularly, after the problems identified in the recent times and because of the constant bickering with the union representatives. A few days ago the last diaphragm wall of the S. Ambrogio tunnel was demolished, a fundamental stage for doubling the tunnel.
With the fall of the diaphragm, the two excavation fronts of the tunnel join, allowing the completion of an almost 4 km long tunnel, entirely excavated with the traditional method, on the Ogliastrillo-Castelbuono section.
The overall project includes, in addition to the construction of the S. Ambrogio tunnel, also the mechanized excavation of the Cefalù tunnel, the construction of the new entirely underground Cefalù stop, the new Castelbuono station, the suppression of five level crossings, the safety of the portion of territory in which the work is inserted through the hydraulic arrangement of the streams.
