Protests against radioactive waste deposit in Fulgatore, Trapanese

Summary: A visit was made to the countryside of Fulgatore, in Trapanese, where the company Sogin, commissioned by the Ministry of the Environment, has identified as one of the locations to deposit radioactive waste from across the country. The mayor of Trapani, Giacomo Tranchida, along with other officials, visited the area of over 200 hectares in preparation for a public assembly on April 28, 2024. On May 2, in Piazza Vittorio Veneto in Trapani, mayors and representatives of the social and productive world will meet with students to invite them to protest against the national government’s decision. In addition to Fulgatore, another site near the temple of Segesta in the province of Trapani has also been identified for waste deposition, leading to recent protests.
