Last night, there was a protest around 11 PM at the Pian del Lago Repatriation Center. Several detained foreigners climbed onto the roofs of the pavilions and threw stones, which they had obtained from damaging the walls inside, towards the law enforcement forces. The protest, which was subdued after a few hours, was sparked by the refusal of imminent repatriation. Almost every evening at the Pian del Lago Repatriation Center, protests of this kind are staged, resulting in the intervention of law enforcement forces, with the support of Flying Squad officers and Carabinieri from the Mobile Unit.
Meanwhile, the pressure on the Lampedusa hotspot is decreasing. Throughout the day, 750 migrants will be transferred according to a plan by the Agrigento prefecture to lighten the structure, which currently houses 2,250 people, although its capacity is only around 400. 570 migrants were embarked aboard the Galaxy ferry this morning, which had been stationary for two days due to adverse sea conditions. Escorted by the police, they are expected to arrive in Porto Empedocle in the late afternoon. In the evening, 180 migrants will be transferred by a charter flight directly to Bologna.
