Priest accused of demanding money for funerals released: Sortino.

The detention of Father Vincenzo Cafra, a 51-year-old priest from Sortino, Siracusa, has been validated by the judge. He was arrested on Tuesday by the carabinieri on charges of extortion. The military allege that he demanded money, around 100 euros, for funeral services. During the preliminary hearing, Father Vincenzo Cafra, represented by lawyer Francesco Fazzino, denied all charges and claimed that it is customary to give a donation to the Church during funerals. The judge has imposed a ban on residing in Sortino.
