By bike from Basilicata to Sicily, passing through Calabria. An idea 1200 kilometers long that of the cycle route of Magna Grecia, whose technical feasibility project was presented in Roccella Jonica by the regional representatives to the mayors of the area.
The track will have like starting point Lagonegro and arrival point Pachino, in the province of Syracuse. A path that must take into account some indicators (slope, width, traffic lights, underpasses, safety protection, etc.) and be usable for all types of users, compatibly with the morphology, the characteristics of the places and of the existing paths. The design team illustrated the prerequisites for the intervention to the local administrators, declaring themselves available to research and define the best solutions through a strategy of listening and comparison.
«The Ciclovia Magna Grecia is back among the 10 cycle paths of the national system of tourist cycle routes – explained the regional representative Massimiliano Cozza D’Onofrio -, for which the Ministry has foreseen a substantial funding. The Calabria Region is the leader with respect to Basilicata and Sicily of this important infrastructure ».
The goal is to create real “pedal motorways”, Designed through the integration of the main long-distance itineraries that affect the regional territory and infraregional routes. Stay to untie the knot on the timing of implementation of the work. “I hope short times – observed the municipal councilor for public works of Roccella Francesco Scali – and that it can be realized as soon as possible, because it represents for the whole territory a really important opportunity“.
