Postman of Matteo Messina Denaro’s medical prescriptions sentenced to six years and eight months

The judge in Palermo sentenced Andrea Bonafede to six years and eight months for aggravated favoring and procuring non-compliance with the penalty. He is the cousin and namesake of the surveyor from Campobello di Mazara who loaned his identity to Matteo Messina Denaro. The prosecution in court was supported by prosecutors Piero Padova and Gianluca de Leo. Bonafede is accused of acting as an intermediary between the then-fugitive boss and the doctor Alfonso Tumbarello during the period when the mafia boss was undergoing treatment for colon cancer, which ultimately killed him. The defendant was providing Messina Denaro with medical prescriptions and treatments using the surveyor’s name, claiming that he did not know the real patient was the mob boss. He believed it was his cousin who wanted to keep his diagnosis private.
