Police chief of Messina metropolitan physically assaulted by street vendors

The chief of the metropolitan police in Messina, Giovanni Giardina, was attacked by two street vendors this morning at around 9:30 am. The incident occurred at the intersection of Via La Farina and Via Salandra. Giardina was carrying out inspections in an area where the two vendors were stationed. The vendors, believed to be a father and son, verbally and physically assaulted Giardina, throwing him to the ground and causing injuries. He required medical attention and was taken to the hospital. The municipal police, as well as the police and carabinieri, are now searching for the perpetrators who quickly fled the scene.
