Phantom insurance scam: Ragusa client swindled, two women arrested in Caserta.

Two women, aged 20 and 42 and residing in the province of Caserta, were reported by the police in Catania for a scam against a young driver from the province of Ragusa who was supposed to take out a third-party liability insurance policy on his car. The two women have previous convictions for similar crimes.

The investigation was triggered by a report filed by the victim against unknown individuals. The victim had entered their information on an insurance policy search engine online to find the best offer, and within minutes, they were contacted by a fake agent from a well-known insurance company offering them a policy for 288 euros.

The victim immediately agreed and made a bank transfer to the provided account number, but never received a contract, insurance policy, or payment receipt. They also got no response from the phone number used to contact them. When they checked with the insurance company’s headquarters, they found out that no policy had been taken out and the account used for the transfer did not belong to that insurance agency.
