“A new generation is coming forward and will have to completely rethink society.
The challenge is that of an unprecedented cultural, social, economic and industrial transformation.
That, in fact, of a new mission.
Space exploration has the characteristics to stimulate this renaissance and be one of its main ambassadors.
ESA wants and can offer new opportunities, and it is therefore essential that Europe and with it Italy seize them ».

Forty-six years, European record holder of walk in the space, the time spent outside the orbiting vehicle, thanks to the two missions of the European Space Agency in which he took part, Parmitano received recognition in front of academics, personalities and his parents, excited in the front row.
«An honor – says the astronaut speaking of the award – because economics is a very unusual subject for someone like me who deals with operationsalthough recently in my role as head of the astronautical operations office I got closer to what is the programmatic aspect, to how the agency imagines the future and to be able to realize it we need to show what the benefits of what is a space economy are“.

For Parmitano, who based his lecture precisely on space economyreceiving the degree is “un more reason to add representativeness to what is my role as ambassador for what is the European space agency.
I never look back, but in thinking about what my path has been I do not find difficulties but opportunitiesI discovered as I grew up that everything that is worth doing must have complexities, otherwise it is not really worth it ».
