Parchment of 1925 on post-earthquake reconstruction donated to the Municipality of Messina – Tempo Stretto

It will be exhibited in the PalAntonello Historical Archive

A precious parchment, donated to the government commissioner for the reconstruction of Messina by his collaborators, dated 1925, was sent by his descendant, Cesare Cagli, living in Rome, to the address of the mayor Cateno De Luca and the councilor for Culture, Enzo Caruso, to be acquired and kept in the “Nitto Scaglione” Historical Archive of the Municipality of Messina.

The parchment, kept for all this time by the great-grandson who lives in Rome, is finely hand painted with images referring to the Fountains of Orion and Neptune and to a valuable view of the port of Messina and bears the dedication dictated by Senator Fulci and the signatures autographs of the collaborators of Cesare Cagli, namesake of the donor: “To the Grand Officer Cesare Cagli, of the reconstruction of the glorious destroyed city, wise advocate of the high mission, enthusiastic, in tireless work, tireless, in brilliant methods. His collaborators of the National Building Union Headquarters of Messina who had him Chief, with paternal severity, with affectionate austerity, master moderator, as a reverent reminder of affectionate gratitude. 22 December 1925. Known as Senator Fulci ”.

“We can only be grateful – declares the commissioner Caruso – for the precious gift and attention that Dr. Cagli wanted to reserve for our city with this important document relating to the history of post-earthquake reconstruction, which is added to other valuable documentation recently brought to light and which can be enjoyed by those who want to admire it in our Historical Archive, located at the Palacultura Antonello “.
