Palma di Montechiaro: 3 convictions on appeal for violent robbery against elderly siblings

In an appeals court, three individuals in Palma di Montechiaro have had their prison sentences of over 30 years confirmed. They were accused of forcibly confining and assaulting three elderly individuals in order to steal their life savings. The court of appeals upheld the verdict from the initial trial, meeting the request of the prosecutor general. The three defendants, Antonino Manganello (50), Alfonso Manganello (52), and Carmelo Marino (41), were initially sentenced in November of last year to 11 years and 6 months, 10 years and 4 months, and 8 years and 5 months of imprisonment, respectively. The appeal judges reconfirmed the sentence without any modifications. The three elder victims, all siblings aged 73, 79, and 83, including one woman, were attacked and threatened by the robbers on May 18, 2020, while they were in the garden of their residence in the Zaccanello district of Racalmuto. The perpetrators stole over 60,000 euros in cash and valuables from the house.
