A 12-year-old boy was taken to the emergency room of the Cervello hospital in Palermo with a bad wound from a firecracker explosion. The conditions of the limb are so compromised that the boy has been transferred to the specialized department located at the Polyclinic. At the moment the balance of the wounded in Palermo, still provisional, is three others who have arrived in the hospitals of the capital.
In Catania, between the evening of 31 December and the early hours of today, many people, including several minors, went to the Cannizzaro emergency room for trauma attributable to the celebrations for the arrival of the new year. An eleven-year-old boy was admitted to plastic surgery who suffered a lacerated wound on his left hand due to the explosion of a firecracker.
The doctors of the same department took charge, after having already treated him in the emergency-urgency area, a 47-year-old from the province who was burned on his face by the explosion of fireworks, bringing bruises to his cheek and eyelid. At dawn today, the pediatric emergency room treated a 4-year-old boy from the province of Enna who was suddenly attacked during the night by a friend’s pit bull in whose home he was with his family. The little one was bitten on the cheek and suffered other grazes on his chin: he was discharged but will have to return for checks. Another 50-year-old adult from the province of Catania suffered an injury to his left hand with tendon exposure following the slide of a firearm. After being assisted in the emergency room, several young people between the ages of 14 and 30 from Catania and the hinterland were also discharged for alcohol abuse; one of them also suffered a head injury and an injury from a fall.
The general manager of the Cannizzaro company, Salvatore Giuffrida, thanked the hospital staff “who in the night just passed, as in this holiday period, worked with dedication and professionalism, managing various and complex cases in the best possible way, mainly of a traumatic, largely due to the failure to comply with the rules and recommendations punctually provided by experts and authorities”.
