PALERMO – Ryanair presented the 2022 summer season of the Palermo airport with an additional aircraft at Falcone Borsellino and 39 routes including 4 to new destinations such as Baden-Baden, Barcelona, Edinburgh and Genoa.
Ryanair’s five Palermo-based aircraft represent an investment of over $ 500 million, which will support over 150 highly paid aviation jobs and more than 3,300 related jobs.
Ryanair will operate more than 530 weekly flights to Palermo for summer 2022 (+ 38% compared to the pre-pandemic season) with an abundance of routes to major European destinations such as Paris, Rome and Madrid or to holiday destinations such as Barcelona, Berlin or Pisa, also giving incoming tourism a necessary boost after two summers of crisis due to the Covid emergency.
“We have worked closely with our partners at Palermo airport to ensure this growth and improve services for those who live, work or wish to visit Palermo and Sicily.
To accelerate the recovery of tourism, we ask the Italian government to eliminate the “tourism tax” on all air travel from 2022 to 2025, which is damaging the competitiveness of Italian airports compared to European ones “said Mauro Bolla, Country Manager of Ryanair for Italy, during the press conference in Palermo.
“The partnership with Ryanair is consolidated, a company that has contributed decisively to the increase in passengers to and from the” Falcone Borsellino “international airport of Palermo” added Giovanni Scalia, CEO of Gesap, the management company of the Palermo airport.
“The programming for this summer season confirms the solid commercial relationship, which has lasted for some time, with the company, which continues to invest in the airport and in the area”.
