Palermo revives Borgo Nuovo’s heavy athletics gymnasium

New life for the heavy athletics gym in Borgo Nuovo in Palermo. After years of abandonment, thanks to an agreement signed between the municipal administration and the Italian judo, wrestling, karate and martial arts federation, the structure of Largo Partinico will be transformed into a nationally relevant sports center where both competitive practice and activities of social interest will be enhanced with free courses for the most vulnerable citizens.

The news was announced by the sports assessor Alessandro Anello. The approval for the concession of the gym was given last night with the approval of a board resolution signed by Anello. The relationship between the Municipality and Fijlkam, chaired by Domenico Randazzo, will be regulated by a convention. The keys will be handed over next week.

“The convention – explains the assessor – commits the federation to establish a federal technical center with qualified instructors and the necessary equipment to carry out the various disciplines. The rooms will be equipped with mats for judo, karate and wrestling, dumbbells for the weight room, furnishings for the dressing rooms and a semi-automatic defibrillator. Work will also be carried out on the windows for the installation of grilles to protect the gym.

“The costs for equipment, personnel, routine maintenance, utilities, and insurance will be borne by the federation.” Fijlkam will guarantee the practice of federal sports disciplines to both members, affiliated clubs or entities, and to citizens who request it, establishing days and times for activities.
