Palermo: Protection Civil’s Roadshow Launched in Verdi Square, Ready for Action

The first roadshow of the new regional civil protection campaign “Ready for Action” was inaugurated this morning (October 26th) at Piazza Verdi. The President of the Region, Renato Schifani, the regional director of Civil Protection, Salvatore Cocina, the prefect, Maria Teresa Cucinotta, the mayor of the capital, Roberto Lagalla, and the regional director of the fire brigade, Gaetano Vallefuoco, were present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The roadshow will remain at Piazza Verdi until Saturday 28th.
According to Cocina, the objective of the campaign is to raise awareness among the population about prevention and risk reduction, as well as active participation in natural disasters. The spontaneous actions taken by panicked citizens can often be fatal. The campaign aims to educate young people so that they can transmit this knowledge to their families and adults.
The “Civil Protection Village” has been set up in front of the Teatro Massimo, open to the public from 9:30 am to 6 pm. It features various educational and recreational areas for students and citizens of all ages. Climbing walls, a 100-square-meter tent, and a field kitchen have also been installed in the area. Emergency management vehicles and trained rescue dogs are also present. Experts and representatives from the world of volunteering will be available to answer any doubts or questions from citizens.
After Palermo, the civil protection roadshow will move to Messina from November 9th to 11th (Piazza Municipio) and finally to Catania from November 16th to 18th (Piazzale Chinnici alle Ciminiere). Admission to the educational and recreational area is free, but requires prior reservation on the website www.prontiallazione.it.
