Palermo, presented the 397th Festino di Santa Rosalia

PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – The wait in Palermo is rising for the 397th edition of the Festino di Santa Rosalia, which this year, between compliance with Covid regulations and the desire to restart after a year and a half of suffering, aims at a organization devoted to substance without too many frills. There will not be the classic appointment with the procession on the evening of the 14th, but it is still a rich edition full of hope for the future. The 2021 Festino was presented today at the Archbishop’s Palace in Palermo in the presence, among others, of the mayor Leoluca Orlando and Archbishop Corrado Lorefice, and some details have been disclosed on the edition that will start as early as Saturday 10 July to then continue until the usual strictly religious moment with the Eucharistic celebration on day 15. And ideally, the end of the activities will actually be the beginning of a journey that leads to the other appointment of celebration of the patron saint of the city, that of the September 4, in which it is hoped to be able to carry out the so-called ‘acchianatà without limitations due to the pandemic.
It will be a different Festino from the previous editions, starting with the role of the chariot, which will not parade in procession through the streets of the Cassaro, but which will be moved from Parliament Square to the Quattro Canti, where it will be stationed, properly lit, from the night of 9 to 15th of July. Going into the details of the costs, it is one of the cheapest editions: 16,000 euros were invested for the lights, while for the restoration of the wagon and its transport the outlay was 24,000 euros. The wagon, in fact, had been vandalized in recent months with spray cans and also used as a camper and its refurbishment was entrusted to Vincenzo Montanelli’s VM Agency. The fireworks cannot be missing, which exceptionally to avoid crowds will be held in five different areas of the city. The fireworks will take place from the stations of Bandita, Sant’Erasmo, Acquasanta, Mondello and Sferracavallo, by the Port System Authority of the Western Sicily Sea.
Among the novelties, the Army helicopter that will fly over the city with a reliquary of the ‘Santuzzà inside and on board the archbishop Corrado Lorefice, who wanted to emphasize the importance of this feast in times of pandemic: ” celebration that over the centuries does nothing but remind us of this presence that accompanies the lives of the Palermitans, to which many different multiple destinies have been linked. We really feel our Santuzza as an integral part of our city. The challenge of the pandemic brings us to a time of questions – added the archbishop of the diocese of Palermo – As always, questions unite us to seek and share a city marked by a continuous perspective of co-responsibility. There will not be the usual party, there will be no procession, but this year Rosalia will be even more with us, giving us a strong message of solidarity and hope, that of having and taking care of us ”.
This is the last party for Leoluca Orlando as mayor of the city and his wish is that all citizens can shout the canon “Viva Palermo and Santa Rosalia” to fight the dramatic effects of Covid in a union of intentions: “That of Santa Rosalia is a festival anyway and every year. The party does not mean only fun, but also has a value, its own dimension, namely freedom from fear – Orlando explained – Palermo starts again as a city that becomes a community: day 15 there will be the important meeting between the different religious faiths, another way to express the soul of the city which is a rainbow mosaic. It is a party in which the whole city, not the mayor, must shout ‘long live Palermo and Santa Rosalia ”.
