The Teatro Massimo pays tribute to Maria Callas on the centenary of her birth: the concert, in collaboration with the Sicilian Hellenic Community Trinacria, will feature performances of Callas’s most famous roles, including arias from Faust, Verdi’s Trovatore and La Traviata, and Puccini’s Boheme and Tosca. The concert will conclude with a moving tribute to the Greek world with Ravel’s Five Greek Folk Songs, performed in the original text. The performance will be led by conductor Alessandro Cadario and the Greek soprano Myrtò Papatanasiu. Myrtò expressed that Maria Callas was a strong icon not only in singing, but also as an interpreter and actress. The concert is not only a celebration of Callas’s centenary, but also a tribute to the identity of music and opera.
