In recent days, the financiers of the provincial command of Palermo in the context of the economic control services of the territory aimed at repressing and contrasting illicit trafficking on the occasion of the end-of-year festivities, have seized, in various interventions carried out throughout the provincial territory , over 1.5 million pyrotechnic devices weighing a total of over 4.3 tons.
In particular, the activity of the Giamme Gialle was oriented, on the one hand, to verifying the safety requirements (by verifying the correct storage methods) and the authorizations for the possession and marketing of the aforementioned articles, and on the other to identifying sources of supply, by checking postal couriers and sorting depots.
In the first case, the soldiers of the 2nd Palermo Metropolitan Operational Nucleus, also following targeted information research activities, made several accesses to points of sale or mega stores where they seized countless articles of the kind held in the absence of a regular authorization issued by the prefect. Furthermore, the military ascertained that, together with the explosive material, highly flammable items were present in the same sales or storage areas (paper napkins, artificial flowers, plastic plates and cups, kitchen gas lighters, lighters containing liquid gas, sprays etc.).
They were therefore reported to the local Public Prosecutor’s Office 5 non-EU citizens for illegal trade in explosive material, receiving stolen goods, and also for violations of fire regulations and workplace safety regulations, while the goods illegally held or offered for sale, approximately 1.5 million of pyrotechnic artifices, of the corresponding weight of beyond 2.5 tonswas subjected to criminal seizure.
For similar conduct others 4 people (including 3 residents of the city and one in Corleone) were reported by the green Basques of the Ready-to-Employment Group during checks carried out at dispatch centers in the city, during which the soldiers, with the help of personnel from the shipping company, they located and seized over 220 “batteries” of pyrotechnic devices for a total weight of over 880 Kgs.
Finally, close to New Year’s Eve, similar checks were carried out by the financiers of the Compagnia di Bagheria, at postal courier depots in the province which made it possible to ascertain the presence of shipments, with no indications on the origin, destination and nature of the content, within which the presence of has been ascertained 1,356 pyrotechnic devices for a total weight of approx 950 Kgs. In relation to the alleged recipients, 9 subjects still unknown to the state, investigations are underway to trace their identity.
The activity carried out bears witness to the commitment made by the Guardia di Finanza as an economic-financial and security police with a strong social vocation in contrast to the illegal economy and to protect citizens.
