Palermo night of fires: piles of garbage in flames on city streets

Night of waste fires in Palermo, in the Zen district. Flames were set to piles of uncollected garbage in Fausto Coppi Street, not far from a church. The flames and smoke invaded the buildings. The air became unbreathable. The firefighters intervened, taking two hours to extinguish the flames. In the outskirts of Palermo, garbage piles have returned, many in Borgo Nuovo.

In Coppi Street, the firefighters’ intervention lasted about an hour, from 10:30 pm to 11:30 pm. The other teams intervened to extinguish the flames that engulfed the trash piles, in Ludovico Bianchini Street (around 1 am), in Gino Zappa Street (at 2:30 am), in San Nicola Street (at 3 am). And again in Trinacria Street and General Albricci Street at 4 am.
