Palermo: night life areas under inspection: Vucciria, Borgo, and Sant’Anna square

The article describes new controls carried out last night in the streets of the nightlife district of Palermo. Police officers, carabinieri, finance police, and municipal police, with the support of Asp personnel, identified 144 people, 33 of whom had criminal records or police records. 26 vehicles were checked, 8 fines were issued, and two driving licenses were confiscated. A seizure and an administrative detention were also carried out. During the checks, a person was identified and reported who was subject to a ban on approaching the area where the controls took place.

The control activity is part of those carried out in neighborhoods with particular public order issues, especially during the nightlife hours. Surveillance follows the protocol called “High Impact,” in line with the directives of the Minister of the Interior and based on intervention strategies shared within the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety.

The Vucciria, the area of Piazza Sant’Anna, and the Borgo Vecchio neighborhood were under scrutiny last night, the latter being the focus of a protest by residents in recent days due to loud music until late at night. The services, which started from 7 pm yesterday, September 27, and continued until dawn today, included checkpoints, searches, home checks on criminals, anti-drug services, and administrative checks on commercial activities. The services were deployed along and around the streets of Corso Vittorio Emanuele and Via Roma, extending to Piazza San Domenico, Piazza Sant’Anna, Via Argenteria, Via Maccheronai, Via Dei Coltellieri, Via Dei Frangiai, Via Pannieri, Via Chiavettieri, Discesa Caracciolo, Piazza Garraffello, Piazza Fonderia, and adjacent areas.
