Palermo fan banned from stadiums for assaulting steward

The police chief of Palermo, Maurizio Calvino, has issued a five-year ban from sports events for a man who punched a steward in the face at the Renzo Barbera stadium. The man, a Palermo fan and member of a local ultras group, had tried to force the steward to let his group in without tickets. When the steward refused, the man punched him and fled. The police were able to identify the man through surveillance footage and he has been charged with assault. In addition, he has been banned from all sports facilities in Italy for five years, including areas around sports venues.
