In two years, a 39-year-old Brazilian entrepreneur sold about a hundred thousand devices on Amazon, including smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, and other small appliances. Despite earning almost 12 million euros, she never declared anything to the tax authorities. She opened and then closed a VAT number to avoid detection, but suspicions arose due to abnormal transactions reported by the online sales platform. The investigation revealed that she bought discounted products from large retailers and resold them at a higher but still competitive price. She evaded over 11 million euros in revenue in 2017 and 2018, and also in the following year. The financial police used bank transaction analysis to quantify the amount of taxes the woman had not paid. This case highlights the commitment to fighting serial tax evasion and protecting the healthy economy and fair market competition.
