Palermo concert season opening at Politeama cancelled due to workers’ strike

The concert of Maestro Barry Douglas, which was supposed to open the concert season of the Sicilian Symphony Orchestra, has been cancelled due to a national strike for the renewal of the contract for the symphonic foundations. The orchestra’s management expressed understanding for the union’s position, but unfortunately, the concert scheduled for tomorrow at 9pm will not take place. However, the afternoon concert on Saturday at 5:30pm with Maestro Barry Douglas is still confirmed. The cancelled concert will be rescheduled, and subscribers can request a refund at the box office. The regional secretaries of the Sicilian unions have decided to join the national strike, as the national contract has been stagnant since 2003, and there are ongoing discussions to address other issues related to the technical-administrative sector.
