This morning in Palermo, a ceremony was held to commemorate the brothers Alfredo and Antonio Di Dio, Palermo partisans awarded the gold medal for military valor. In their honor, a plaque was placed in via Alfredo e Antonio Di Dio, to remember their sacrifice in the fight against the Nazi-fascist forces.

Present at the ceremony were Marcello Longo, president of the eighth district, Gaspare Simeti, director of the theater office and event coordination, Cesare Arangio, president of Confcooperative Palermo, and Ottavio Terranova, president of Anpi Palermo. During the event, the heroism of the two Catholic-moderate orientation commanders was emphasized, whose commitment led to the surrender of the Nazi-fascist forces in Piedmont and the birth of the Partisan Republic of Val d’Ossola.

The story of the Di Dio brothers is part of the Piedmontese resistance tradition, to which many Sicilians contributed significantly, engaging the Nazi-fascist forces in a meaningful way. The statement released by Confcooperative Sicilia, the promoter of the event along with Anpi, the City of Palermo, and the eighth district, emphasizes the importance of the celebration not only to remember a little-known chapter of history to the citizens but also to highlight how the fight against Nazi-fascism involved all political opposition forces to the Mussolini regime.
