Palermo, bad weather causes damage: a tree collapsed

A huge and centuries-old tree, a Ficus macrophylla, collapsed in Palermo on the corner of Viale delle Magnolie and Viale Piemonte. The collapse, probably caused by the abundant rains of the past few days, completely blocked the roadway in Viale Piemonte. Firefighters intervened to remove the plant and restore circulation. The municipality had already built an iron platform to get around the huge trunk that occupied the entire sidewalk. They are an accident that put a strain on the resistance of a tree which, with its aerial roots, had resisted the elements for years.
