Palermo arrests arsonist of Capo Gallo: caused devastation to 600 hectares of reserve.

Carabinieri from the San Lorenzo company executed a court order of custody in prison, issued by the judge of Palermo, against a 26-year-old man accused of negligent environmental disaster and negligent forest fire. The operation, coordinated by the prosecutor’s office, was carried out by the operative unit and led to the identification of the person who started the fire on July 24, 2023, which destroyed about 650 hectares of vegetation, including almost 600 hectares of the Capo Gallo nature reserve in Palermo. The man had previously been convicted in 2017 for damage following a fire, private violence, and crimes related to weapons and explosives. He was already in prison since October of last year for investigation of abuse towards his partner and her 3-year-old son.
