Palermo-Agrigento, Tir loses load of recyclable waste between Bolognetta and Misilmeri: traffic paralyzed.

#Palermo
A heavy vehicle lost part of its load on the SS 121 highway on a scorching afternoon in July, with temperatures reaching 41 degrees Celsius, causing the Palermo-Agrigento road to once again make headlines (in a negative way). Friday evening was a nightmare for hundreds of motorists who were stuck under the sweltering heat from 8 pm until late at night. The highway police worked commendably on the scene. Traffic was redirected to provincial roads, causing significant difficulties for the road network from Bolognetta to Misilmeri.

The heavy vehicle, heading towards Misilmeri, lost part of its load (recyclable material), which spilled onto the opposite lane. Traffic remained paralyzed for approximately five hours. Heavy trucks and buses were stranded, unable to proceed or even turn around. Cars had a slightly better situation. “It’s unbelievable,” says a bus driver, “it’s a road that has a thousand dangers. It’s impossible to work in these conditions.”

Passengers of a tourist bus were made to disembark and were advised to wait for the clearance under the shade of trees. A Belgian tourist drinks water from a bottle, holding her young daughter in her arms, but she doesn’t lack irony: “We haven’t even reached Agrigento yet, and we’re already getting some tan,” she says with a smile, “and it’s free too.” Ambulance vehicles from the emergency services had to take alternative routes on the provincial road connecting Misilmeri and Bolognetta, further worsening the city’s traffic. In Misilmeri itself, a section of Viale Europa has been closed to traffic since June 29 due to structural problems with a building. Everything returned to normal after midnight.
