Over three hundred athletes at Mondello for the Filippi Beach Sprint Trophy in Palermo

Explain in brief the following article:

There are 334 athletes competing today and tomorrow in the Gulf of Mondello for the Filippi Trophy in Beach Sprint in the debut stage of the 2024 circuit. There are 32 rowing clubs from all over Italy, as well as two representatives from Austria and Hungary. This event is important for Palermo, as it marks the beginning of a new journey for the athletes towards the Olympics. Beach Sprint, a specialty of rowing practiced on coastal rowing boats, has been added to the program of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The Filippi Trophy, organized by the Canottieri Mondello and Club Canottieri Roggero di Lauria, is in its third edition. The event will feature the presence of the president of the Italian Rowing Federation, Giuseppe Abbagnale.

A national supervisor, Pasquale Triggiani, has been appointed by the FIC to ensure the correct setup and conduct of the races at each stage of the trophy. In Mondello, there is a beach village set up near the Italo Belga Beach Resort, complete with changing rooms, bathrooms, a warm-up area with rowing ergometers, and a mobile workshop for boat repairs provided by Filippi Boat. The event also includes support from the Search and Rescue Dogs Association to enhance water safety, with the assistance of a jet-ski with a stretcher and a rescuer on board.

The event emphasizes eco-sustainability and respect for nature, with the presence of an igloo from ARPA, the regional agency for environmental protection, providing information about the sea depth through digital technologies. Visitors can immerse themselves in the beauty of the marine depths using 3D glasses and a sophisticated projector with immersive images. The Filippi Trophy Village offers a unique and fun competitive atmosphere, enhanced by commentary from journalist and speaker Luca Broggini from the Italian Rowing Federation and World Rowing.
