Anti-mafia operation xydi. The judge for the preliminary investigation of the Court of Agrigento, Alessandra Vella, validated the arrest order against Giancarlo Buggea, Luigi Boncori, Antonino Chiazza, Gaetano Lombardo – all considered top representatives of the mafia families of Canicattì and Ravanusa – and also against Filippo Pitruzzella, chief inspector until recently in service at the Canicattì police station. For the latter, the judge ordered the precautionary measure of house arrest while the other four remain in prison. The investigating judge Vella, on the other hand, did not validate the arrest of Giuseppe D’Andrea, assistant chief on duty at the Canicattì police station, however, arranging for him the extent of house arrest. Giuseppe Pirrera, Gianfranco Gaetani and Luigi Carmina return to freedom. The judge also declared his incompetence in favor of the Palermo court, thus transmitting the documents to the competent public prosecutor. This is the first assessment of the validations of the arrests in the context of the maxi anti-mafia investigation Xidy – carried out by the carabinieri del Ros – which shed light on the Mafia district of Canicattì. In this “excerpt” reference is made to the suspects who are detained outside the province of Agrigento. At the same time, the investigating magistrate Stefano Zammuto, who instead followed the investigations under guarantee of the suspects detained in Agrigento, confirmed almost all the precautionary measures by placing custody in prison also for the lawyer Angela Porcello.
