New shelter in Catania provides accommodation and shelter for the homeless

In Catania, a new facility has been inaugurated to accommodate homeless people in the Nesima Superiore neighborhood. The facility offers inclusion programs with legal and health assistance, as well as art and manual activities. Currently, it houses 49 people, mostly from Tunisia, Morocco, and Iraq. The initiative was born from a project of the social health district 16, with the collaboration of associations and third sector organizations. The service is managed by the social cooperative “Il Mosaico” with national poverty funds. The building, which previously housed migrants, offers 50 beds and is pet-friendly. The facility includes a terrace, rooms with private bathrooms, a courtyard, a small garden used as an urban farm, and shower and laundry services. Night surveillance is provided by two former residents who are fully integrated into the social and work life of the city.
