New helipad connecting Malfa to Rome and Sicily is on its way

The small town of Malfa, with 800 inhabitants, is aiming to implement helicopter connections to and from Sicily, and possibly also Rome. The project is being spearheaded by the municipal government led by Mayor Clara Rametta, with an estimated cost of €1,044,000. The next step will be the tender process. The goal is to bring the island closer to the rest of Italy, especially during the winter when reaching the archipelago becomes difficult due to rough seas and port deficiencies. Malfa already has a helipad used for emergency patient transfers, and a company from Panarea provides transportation for residents, vacationers, and tourists from Catania, Palermo, and Rome. The project was developed by Project Engineering di Lipari and Helipad Industries di Modica is responsible for the maintenance and safety of the helipad. Additionally, the town is completing an expansion of the marina at Punta Galera for approximately €20 million. This will be used by fishermen, boaters, and as an alternative stop for ships and ferries if needed. In the past, there were discussions about helicopter connections in the main island of Lipari, but the plans were eventually forgotten.
