Mourning at Policlinico di Palermo, Professor Vincenzo La Bella has passed away: “We remember him for his dedication and professionalism”

The Sicilian healthcare system is mourning the loss of neurologist Vincenzo La Bella, coordinator of the regional reference center for ALS and head of the motor neuron diseases and myasthenia clinic at the Paolo Giaccone Polyclinic in Palermo. He was 66 years old and a associate professor of Neurology at the University of Palermo, where he conducted numerous research projects in the field of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Maria Grazia Furnari, the extraordinary commissioner of the polyclinic, announced the sad news on social media, expressing the hospital’s condolences for the loss of Professor La Bella. Colleagues and patients have also shared messages of grief and admiration for the doctor, who was beloved and respected by all. Recently, he had collaborated with experts from the CNR Institute for Biomedical Research and Innovation in Messina to develop a new technique involving the retrieval of connective tissue cells from patients with neurodegenerative diseases. The community is deeply saddened by his passing and remembers him as a generous and dedicated physician who provided care with professionalism, compassion, and dedication.
