Mondello residents: “We saw the fire reach the houses” – VIDEO

Residents of Mondello are anxiously watching the flames above their homes. In the seaside hamlet of Palermo, there is a lot of fear over the fire that has reached Monte Gallo. “Once again, just like in the past, a fire broke out from the Pizzo Sella area,” one resident recounts, “and the wind then carried the flames onto the mountain from the Mondello side. Then the embers came down and even the part of the mountain overlooking the houses caught fire. We residents tried to stop the fire with the means available to us, while waiting for the arrival of the firefighters. In past years, the firefighters arrived on time and with the Canadair planes. This time, throughout today, we saw the firefighters busy in other areas, so their intervention was not immediate. Fortunately, the police arrived quickly. They dealt with the situation, provided assistance, and evacuated the houses. We thanked the police officers, indeed.” Ferdinando Cusimano, councilor of the seventh district and also a resident of Mondello, also spoke about the situation.
