Mondello, after the damage caused by the storm, the end of the pedestrian area was brought forward

Stop ahead of time at the pedestrian area of Mondello. This was decided by the mayor Leoluca Orlando – in agreement with the councilor for Mobility Giusto Catania – after the storm that hit the seaside village and the surrounding areas, causing numerous damages.

“Following the critical issues caused by adverse weather conditions”, reads a note from Palazzo delle Aquile, “it was decided to bring forward to today the conclusion of the ordinance relating to the pedestrianization of Mondello, initially scheduled for October 31”. The new provision will be issued in the next few hours. Established in June by the Municipality, the pedestrian area – after the first step which concerned viale Regina Elena, between via Glauco and via Teti – was also extended from piazza Valdesi to via Teti. An experiment that, according to the commissioner of Catania, has given way to “an irreversible process” despite the complaints of traders and residents. Not surprisingly, the administration immediately took care to say that the pedestrian area in Mondello will return into force on 1 April 2022.
