Minister Nordio to Parliament: Government to appeal to Cassation against Catania’s migrant ordinance.
The government will appeal to the Court of Cassation against the ruling of Judge Iolanda Apostolico in Catania, who cancelled the detention of four migrants in immigration detention centers. Justice Minister Carlo Nordio made the announcement during a question time session in the Chamber of Deputies. Nordio stated that he is in line with the Prime Minister’s stance, which is perfectly in line with what Meloni said. He also commented on the tensions of recent days, stating that there is no institutional clash and that the judiciary is autonomous and independent from any other power. Nordio emphasized that nobody wants to repeat the years of conflict between politics and the judiciary. Defense Minister Guido Crosetto also commented on the matter, stating that those with the power to restrict people’s freedom or use force must not only be impartial, but also appear impartial, in order not to lose trust in the institutions they represent.
