Migrants: 198 in Lampedusa on 5 boats, over 1,200 in hotspots

(ANSA) – LAMPEDUSA, 03 JAN – 198 migrants landed during the night in Lampedusa. The patrol boats of the Guardia di Finanza and the Coast Guard rescued 5 small boats. Yesterday, 6 landings were registered on the island for a total of 254 non-EU citizens.

On board the boats, which all set sail from Sfax, in Tunisia, there were 31 people (12 women and 3 minors) from the Ivory Coast, Gambia, Guinea and Mali; 42 (12 women and 3 minors) originally from Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Senegal and Ghana; 54 (7 women and 1 minor) Liberians and Pakistanis; 27 (5 women) and 44 (13 women and 6 minors) of other nationalities.

All were taken, after an initial health triage carried out at the Favarolo pier, to the Imbriacola district hotspot where, at the moment, there are 1,208 guests compared to just under 400 places available. By New Year’s Eve, with the ship Dattilo, 600 guests had been transferred 600 to Pozzallo. .
