Metal boat with 40 migrants sinks near Lampedusa, one dead

A 7-meter metal boat carrying 40 Eritreans and Sudanese has sunk off the coast of Lampedusa. Italian coast guard and Swedish Frontex vessels rescued 39 survivors, one person was found dead. The migrants reported paying 1,500 to 2,000 Tunisian dinars for the dangerous crossing. The 29-year-old Eritrean who died had been in good health during the journey but lost his life during the rescue. This incident highlights the dangers of the unstable metal boats used by migrants to cross the Mediterranean. Dozens of similar boats have capsized in recent months, causing many deaths.
