Messina, the denunciation of the UIL: “as many as 40 workers, former employees of the former Famila supermarket in Barcelona PG risk losing their jobs permanently. These are workers who were employees of the Abbate Group “
“As many as 40 workers, former employees of the former Famila supermarket in Barcelona PG risk losing their jobs permanently. These are workers who were employees of the Abbate Group: a company that, following the bankruptcy, proceeded to dismiss all workers in April 2020. Subsequently, the same store was acquired by the Conad group which is proceeding to carry out the work of renovation of the premises for an upcoming opening to the public In our province, already tormented by the absence of work and to which the serious situation caused by the covid pandemic has been added, it is socially unacceptable that about 40 workers lose their jobs, despite the Conad Group is reopening the business commercial on the same site where the sales point where the 40 workers worked. Moreover, even more serious, it would seem that Conad, through one of its associates, has started a personnel selection campaign aimed at hiring workers to be hired precisely for the next opening of the Barcelona PG store. In short, beyond the damage, the insult… ”they said Ivan Tripodi, general secretary Uil Messina, e Francesco Rubino, secretary general Uiltucs Messina.
“In recent months we had repeatedly asked the Conad group for a meeting to discuss and resolve this dispute through the resumption of work for the 40 workers and also the Regional Secretariat of Uiltucs Sicilia had urged the opening of a discussion on the matter, but the Conad did not give any response. We also asked for an interest from the municipal administration of Barcelona PG, with which in recent months an interview had also been opened through the City Council, but, to date, we have not received concrete answers regarding this difficult dispute concerning the employment prospects for dozens of Barcelona workers. Therefore, we are forced to invest Mr. Prefect of Messina in the affair. Furthermore, Uil and Uiltucs Messina will proclaim a series of initiatives and protest actions aimed at claiming the future employment of the 40 workers and avoiding this new unacceptable social butchery ”, concluded Tripodi and Rubino.
