Messina. The Papardo Hospital adheres to the national Match It Now campaign and organizes a week dedicated to the donation of bone marrow and blood-forming stem cells
From 21 September to 25 from 08:30 to 13 the clinics on the 9th floor of the Papardo Hospital in Messina will be the protagonists of the national initiative “Match It Now” to raise awareness among 18 to 35 year-olds about bone marrow donation and hematopoietic stem cells.
The procedures to be adopted must aim to provide excellent services both in the interest of the donor and of the recipient of the marrow.
Therefore, the HLA typing laboratory, formerly a reference center for bone marrow donation, located on the ninth floor and coordinated by Dr. Vincenza Giuffrida, will be reachable by booking at 0903993247 for preventive examinations. In case of eligibility, the bone marrow can be donated, after having received all the information on the donation and having had access to the first screening required for registration in the Italian Bone Marrow Donor Registry – IBMDR.
The initiative, sponsored by the Ministry of Health and CONI, is promoted by the National Transplant Center, the National Blood Center, the Italian Bone Marrow Donor Registry, the ADMO and ADOCES Federations and the Adisco association.
“There solidarity it is the engine of our society – comments the Director General of the AO Papardo Mario Paino – and in recent weeks we must aim to raise awareness among citizens aboutimportance of donation, often forgotten. Helping others is a mission that not only concerns doctors and health personnel but all of us to make a difference. “
