The Cisal union in Palermo has announced a strike to demand the renewal of a national contract. The strike is set to coincide with the opening of Vincenzo Bellini’s “Capuleti e Montecchi” at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. The workers are striking because the national contract has not been updated economically since 2003 and has not kept up with inflation. Similar strikes have occurred in other theaters across Italy. Despite the strike, the Teatro Massimo has assured that the performance will go on as planned.
