“Today we are here and we pray for a destroyed family, we do not want to express any word of judgment but only to pray and reflect”. This was said by Don Gaspare Tortorici, priest of the parish of the Sacred Heart of Mary of Marinella di Selinunte (fraction of Castelvetrano), in the mass in memory of Maria Amatuzzo, the 29-year-old woman stabbed to death by her husband Ernesto Favara, 63 years old.
“We pray for Mary who was ferociously killed – said the parish priest – but we also want to pray for her husband, so that Jesus converts her heart and he can ask forgiveness for his sins”. The celebration of mass in the parish a few steps from where the murder took place was commissioned by the mayor of Castelvetrano Enzo Alfano. In the church tonight, in addition to Alfano, there were some councilors, the president of the municipal council Patrick Cirrincione and a delegation from the local committee of the Red Cross.
Don Gaspare Tortorici, in his homily, reaffirmed the need to listen: “This is the basis of the relationship of a couple – said the parish priest – we need to find the time to listen to each other”.
