Marathon runner dies in Milo during the 100 km volcano race

A 55-year-old ultramarathon runner from Vicenza died of a heart attack while running the “100 km del Vulcano” race on the slopes of Mount Etna. The race was halted at the 50th kilometer mark when the incident occurred. The amateur athlete collapsed suddenly, and despite rescue attempts, it was determined to be a “sudden heart attack”. Carabinieri and the local magistrate arrived at the scene, and the runner’s identification was made by his son.
