Man tries to abuse ex-wife, saved by children: arrested in Catania

In Catania, a 51-year-old man, intoxicated, attacked his 56-year-old ex-partner with the intention of raping her and then locked her in the bedroom. The victim managed to escape from her ex-partner thanks to the intervention of her two adult children and then sought help from the police, who arrested the man for attempted sexual violence. The man, on the prosecutor’s orders, was taken to prison. The judge confirmed the arrest and ordered his detention in prison.

The assault took place in the ex-wife’s home, who, despite their violent history, was hosting the man for the sake of their children. The man had previously been convicted of abuse, illegal possession of weapons and ammunition, and drug trafficking. The children were not at home. The man made advances towards the woman, and when she refused a sexual encounter, he allegedly hit her multiple times in the head.

The victim tried to take refuge in a room to call the police but was caught by the man, who smashed her phone and barricaded the bedroom door with an iron rod, locking her inside. At that moment, the children returned home, alerted by a neighbor, and were able to restrain the father, allowing the mother to escape and call the police.
